Hand Made Glacial Clay with Oak Ash Matcha Bowl
This matcha bowl comes to us from Mitch Iburg of Studio Alluvium. Mitch specializes in foraging local clays and making one-of-a-kind pieces from it. He recently partnered with us to create several matcha bowls, and this is one of them!
This chawan is made from a mix of glacial clay and ball clay, and given an oak ash glaze. The rougher look of this clay perfectly captures the spirit of wabi-sabi that is so central to Japanese tea culture.
Made from clays hand-dug by the artist from various locations throughout Minnesota. Mitch tests all of his clay for heavy metals and other contaminants to ensure they are food safe.
