The Shiboridashi has a wide, flat base that distributes heat evenly and requires very little effort to pour. It also just looks super cool.
This particular Shiboridashi has been given an elongated foot - a relative rarity - reminding us of Ancient Greek wine vessels.
It is made from a clay that is originally red but oxidizes with the heat of the kiln to a dark grey/black, with variations in the patina rendered by the fluctuations in heat of a traditional kiln.
This piece comes from the Gyokkō Kiln in Tokoname - the epicenter of Japanese ceramics.
